THE MUSIC MAN is an effervescent musical comedy for the entire family. It tells the story of Harold Hill, a con-man who arrives in the town of River city, Iowa, hoping to make some money off its citizens. He proposes to found a youth band, selling instruments, costumes and instruction books to the parents, despite his severe lack of musical knowledge. His plan is to take the money and run.
When the skeptical town librarian, Marian Paroo, sees her little brother Winthrop overcoming his social obstacles because of Hill and his band, she falls in love with the scoundrel. Harold also falls in love with Marian and has trouble going through with his plan.
The show, as the name suggests, has many musical numbers, including 76 TROMBONES, TROUBLE and TILL THERE WAS YOU.
"While Israelis may not be familiar with it, this is a very well-known musical in the USA and it has been performed throughout the world by professional and amateur theatres. It is a family show with great music" says Alan Cohen, a long-standing member of LOGON.

It took the writer Meredith Willson, a piccolo player in Tusconini's band, 8 years to write this play. The show won the Tony award for best musical in 1957, beating West Side Story. The song TILL THERE WAS YOU became a hit and was even performed by the Beatles. The show was made into a movie starring Robert Preston as Harold Hill and Shirley Jones (known as the mother on the TV show The Partridge Family) as Marian. Winthrop was played by a young Ron Howard, who later became famous as Richie on Happy Days and is today a well known movie director. A TV movie was made in 2003 with Matthew Broderick as Harold Hill.
