DU-K
Beijing 9 Contemporary Dance Theatre / SOL Dance Company, Beer Sheva
“DU-K” (co-existence) is the first dance
co-production between China and Israel. A Sino/Israeli
cooperation project of the Beijing 9 Contemporary Dance Theater with the
Israeli SOL Dance Company from Beer Sheva. Produced by the 4th Silk Road International
Arts Festival in Xi’an
celebrating the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations
between Israel and China.
An
original ballet with 14 Israeli and Chinese dancers, created by the
award-winning Israeli choreographer Eyal Dadon. Premiered in China to great
acclaim, the piece will be performed in Israel in January 2018.
“DU-K” expresses in dance, song and
drama the similarities and differences between two rich and dynamic cultures,
combining tradition and innovation, a combination of Western aesthetics with
Chinese elements. The show was inspired by the two month residency of
Israeli choreographer Eyal Dadon and his fourteen Chinese and Israeli dancers
in Xi’an, the capital of ancient China, famous for the four
thousand buried clay soldiers. The result was a fascinating experience for a
superb team of Chinese and Israeli artists.
The premiere was held with great success at the Beijing New Dance
Festival and the Xi’an International Dance Festival in September 2017.
The show will be performed in Israel in January 2018.
