Me and my friend visited last week Jasper Johns Bar in center of Tel Aviv and found out that something very special is happening there lately, and for the next few months.

The Mulberry Project came to town!

What is the  Mulberry Project?

Jasper Soffer founder of Mulberry Project:

"Mulberry Project has been open for 7 years in NYC. It was started by bartenders and industry professionals. It was started at the "boom" of the speakeasy style bars in NYC, which were all about the drink experience and very serious places. There was certainly a divide between cocktails bar and bar.
The goal was to create a cocktails bar but it's a lively fun environment. To turn the idea of the speakeasy on it's head, and have a place that does great cocktails but is not solely about just the drinks. We focus on the whole experience; music, lighting, atmosphere and staff approach.

When we opened, we aligned ourselves with well established street artists Kurtis Kulig, Kid Zoom, Bass, Faile. We became known as an after hours spot for New Yorkers "in the know". It was very much an underground club/lounge in the beginning.

We then opened out secret garden or back patio space, which was when we exploded onto the bar scene and soon became a NYC favourite hot spot.

After 7 years, we have maintained our cool, with a rotation of different street artists, varied music program/DJs and a strict door policy

We started doing off site events as well. We have done events for NYC Fashion Week, various Food & Drinks events and a PopUp for 2 years at Sundance Film Festival.

POPUPS

Last year, we branched out into the international PopUp market. We started in Tulum, where i had been doing some consultancy work. We partnered with Colibri Hotel and opened up on the La Zebra property. We have already established ourselves as serving the best drinks in Tulum, which is a serious "foodie" town and a celebrity/A list hotspot.

In Tulum, we are a day bar / beach club - opening everyday from 12pm - 7pm.

We then did a mini PopUp in Rio de Janeiro for the Olympics. We through events during the games in a Mansion in the cool hipster area Santa Teresa.

Lastly, we opened on the rooftop in Cartegena, Colombia. We parted with an existing classic cocktail bar Alquimico, and opened for 3 months of there high season.

With each venue, we brought in guest bartenders and staff from across the US. We also worked with local street artists or brought in guest artists from US."

So....we experinced the Mulberry Project and had great time, drank lovely cocktails and had some good food, as you can see:

  1. Looks like a fun spot. I’d like to get drinks there sometime, if I’m ever in Tel Aviv. I wanted to go for a trip in December but I guess it’ll happen next year. This year I’ll be celebrating Christmas in one of the San Francisco event venues with friends.
